Hey, I’m Paul — a storyteller disguised as a deckbuilder, and the weaver of high-concept Commander brews. LoreWeaverMTG is my canvas: a place where Magic: The Gathering meets myth, mechanics, and meaning.
I believe that Magic isn’t just a game. It’s a way to tell stories — and every deck is a tale waiting to be told.
I started playing Magic back in high school around Time Spiral block, drifted away, and eventually wandered back into the game as a fully grown chaos goblin with a love for Commander. What drew me back wasn’t just the art or the cards — it was the storytelling potential packed into every 100-card stack. This time, I came armed with a little disposable income, a lot more curiosity, and a partner just as enchanted by this weird, beautiful game as I am.
I don’t build decks to win — I build them to say something. Each one a theme, a mood, a narrative arc.
I’m not a Vorthos brewer in the strictest sense. I don’t chase canonical lore. I chase the feeling of story. A Tool-themed Atraxa deck built around sacred geometry. A Sisay deck channeling Coheed and Cambria’s epic space operas. A Veyran brew that shouts glitter and chaos in Ke$ha’s key. I make decks the way some folks make playlists.

Commander is my creative outlet — my spellbook. I’m a theorycrafter at heart, driven by weird synergies, overlooked legends, and card interactions that make a pod stop and go, “Wait. What just happened?”
Most of my brews live in Bracket 1: the decks where flavor is the wincon. I’ll build entire lists around a mood, a song, a piece of art, or the wild idea of what Atraxa would look like as a sacred geometry tattoo. Theme drives everything.
But make no mistake — when I want to swing big, I do.
I also build optimized Bracket 4 decks where synergy, efficiency, and win conditions are locked in. My Astarion, Miirym, Karlach, and Volo decks don’t just lean on flavor — they pack power. I love the world of Dungeons & Dragons, and Baldur’s Gate holds a special place in my heart. You’ll see that love reflected in the card choices and the performance.
Why This Blog Exists
LoreWeaverMTG is a space for celebration and curation — where I document my builds, share flavor-packed deck techs, and explore how Magic decks can be expressions of identity, imagination, and intent.
You won’t find tournament metas or Tier 1 discourse here. You will find:
- ✨ Decks that look and feel like concept albums
- 🎭 High-synergy builds themed around music, art, and myth
- 🔮 Writing that explores why we build, not just how
This blog is also a love letter to the act of brewing — that spark when a commander and a concept click, and you can’t stop thinking about how to make it sing. Whether you’re new to Commander or deep in the sauce, I hope you find something here that sparks your next idea.
Your deck doesn’t need to be perfect — it just needs to be yours.
